Homemade Recipe for Skin & Hair Care (part 1: skin)

Ditch the commercial chemical products.
All you ever need are these (for now):
- Olive oil (extra virgin, first cold pressed)
- Baking soda
- Apple cider vinegar
- Sugar
- Salt
- Coffee grounds

and essential oil
- Tea Tree EO
- Lavender EO
- Rosemary EO
- Bergamot EO
- Lemongrass EO

NOTE: All proportions and ratios are by 'agaration' and personal preference. Feel free to tweak to your own needs and liking.

Here we go!!!

EYE MAKE-UP REMOVER

Ingredients:
1. Olive Oil

Directions:
Apply via cotton pads and voila!!!

Personal review:
Cleanse off waterproof eye make-up well. Hassle free, but may take a few wipes.
Skin feels soft and tender, most importantly moist and not dry!

EXFOLIATOR / BODY SCRUB / FACE SCRUB 1

Ingredients:
1. Sugar (loose and fine)
2. Olive oil
(ratio 2:1 or 3:1)
3. Essential oil (optional) eg. lavender, tea tree

Direction:
Mix, massage gently and go!
Use it as a pre-shaving scrub to remove dead skin and reduce ingrown hair.

Personal review:
EXCELLENT!! Smooth hands and skin. Face feels moist enough to go without moisturizer.
Only thing - I'm not sure if I can do this daily.

EXFOLIATING WASH 2

(Replace sugar with salt to the above recipe)

Personal review:
(...will try soon.)

TONER / FRESHENER

Ingredients:
1. Apple cider vinegar
2. Distilled water
(ratio 1:4)
3. Essential oil (optional) eg. lavender, tea tree

Direction:
Use a spray bottle for easy application.

Personal review:
The mixture smells good, though be sure to close your eyes while spraying as vinegar may sting your eyes. The face don't seem to the reacting well to just the toner alone - feels a lil drying - but following up with a moisturizer like the one below solves the problem. Other parts of the skin seems to be enjoying the refreshing treat. Do not worry about that vinegar smell, it'll be gone in an instance once it evaporates, leaving you only fresh and moist skin!

MOISTURIZER / ANTI-BACTERIAL OIL

Ingredients:
1. Olive oil
2. Tea tree essential oil
(ratio 3:1)
3. Essential oil (optional) eg. lavender, rosemary

Direction:
For moisturizer use, apply onto preferably damp skin.

Personal review:
You do need to get use to the skin texture with 'oil' on you, but that only means that your skin is moist and not dry/dehydrated. Tea tree oil has a strong medicated smell so if you don't like it mask it with other essential oil like lavender. Otherwise skin feels smooth

ACNE / ITCH CONTROL

Ingredients:
1. Tea tree essential oil

Direction:
Use cotton bud to apply only on to affected area just after cleansing.

Personal review:
Bear with the medicated smell, which actually has a mind-calming effect when you're used to it. Otherwise so far so good. Redness don't seem to go away immediately, but at least the itch is gone and bum gets down.

NIGHT CREAM

Ingredients:
1. Olive oil
2. Apple cider vinegar
3. Water
(ratio 2:1:1)

Direction:
Apply on wet face and leave overnight.

Personal review:
(...will try soon.)

SHAVING LOTION

Ingredients:
1. Olive oil

Direction:
Apply light layer on damp skin before shaving.

Personal review:
Pros - Skin feels smooth and soft, feels like there's a layer of protection over the skin and you don't have to worry about being cut by the razor blades! The oil keeps the skin tender and hydrated even after rinsing off, you don't even need an aftershave moisturizer!
Cons - The pre-scrub and oil seems to be removing loads of dirt and dead skin from the skin, which will be stuck on the razor blades together with the oil. Shaved hair are also caught in the oil and rinsing the blades won't get rid of the 'oil clot' easier, and as a result, decreasing the effectiveness of the razor as you shave. I'm using disposable shavers by the way, saves me the hassle of having to wash that oil-stucked razor.

SUNBURN RELIEF (kiv)

Ingredients:
1. Olive oil

Direction:
Apply onto affected skin, leave on for about 3 hours before rinsing off with cool water.

Personal review:
(Have yet suffered from sunburn and hence not tried.)

CELLULITE REDUCTION (kiv)

Ingredients:
1. Olive oil
2. Freshly brewed coffee grounds

Direction:
Rub mixture onto skin and let sit for at least 15min before rinsing. No more than 3 times a week.

Personal review:
(Have yet suffered from cellulite and hence not tried.)
